Just acquired a distro of this. I'm thinking of replacing Mandrake 10 with it to have a playaround.

Anyone know Debian and can give me an opinion. Also I've got a Distro of Suse Pro 9.1, any comments on this.

In general which would you prefer?:)

Ah well, Tried 3 installs of Debian. Not brilliant at recognising stuff. Decided I was going to play with Suse Pro 9.1 anyway so I re-installed Mandrake 10. 2 Hours start to finish including updates :)

    Hey, dude!
Sorry to hear about Sarge not recognizing your hardware (but happy you posted about this). I saw the link to LinuxCompatable, and then looked to vendors (I'm on dial-up). I saw where vendors want much more money for these "development snapshots" because they "go stale" I guess.

Anyway, I had high hopes for this, since knoppix (which is debian stable/unstable ?) Seemed to go fairly well...

I think I'm going to try Slackware next. Vlad said it was good in one of the threads here. I got the SuSE live cd, but it balked at the printer detection (Epson Stylus C82). Haven't messed around with it any since.

They say FedCore2 is faster than 1.

    All I know is that I'm going to reformat soon. You live and learn. I learned that my partition sizes could be better, using the command;

    df -h

So, I'll get it tighter the next go-round. I am TRYING to learn some C language now. If I can get the hang of it, I will try to do the NEW Linux from Scratch.
    On Linux Compatible today. Link:

(See under "Latest Linux News", top left hand corner). I'll have to look at the documentation first, though, don't want to get into too deep water.

Then, there's the Gentoo. Must find out about that. Compile the WHOLE business just for your rig?

    Anyway,
    Cheers.

I must get debian running someday. I must. There's a mystique about it...

Yeah I think Mandrake is pretty good for a newcomer to Linux, got the install down pat:) but I think I'll summon up the gumption to move to Suse 9.1.

MA and a few others have had good things to say about Suse:)

Well, good luck with it. I'm anxious to know how it goes. SuSE certainly does seem to have a reputation for being an aggressive company lately.

Maybe that will be the distro of choice, who knows...

Meanwhile, I'll keep searching about. I do know that the SuSE doesn't seem to include much multimedia support (neither does Fedora) -- liscensing issues...

However, the install of that stuff on the side is a good learning experience...

(Especially if you do the tarball thing with the source code... or make your own rpm... hahaha)

    ;)
