Hello, apologies if this is a repeat post because I don't see the first one. It disappeared.

I am going through the steps on the "how to protect" page:
    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=44525

I need help with deciding on realtime antispyware tool protection. This is what I have so far on my Windows XP sp2 with firefox used as browser:

    Clearner: CCcleaner
    Antivirus: Symantec
    Firewall: Online Armour (free)
    AntiSpyware Tools:
Malware Bytes (free; so scanner only)
    Spybot
    Spywareblaster
Ad-Aware 2008 Pro + Ad-Watch (licensed but free to me)
    Other:
    Winpatrol
    MVPHost

I believe I am lacking realtime protection in the antispyware tools category and I am trying to stick with free so I am thinking of these options:

    1. Comodo BOClean... (realtimeprotector) in conjunction with Malware Bytes (scanner)

    Or

    2. Spyware Terminator (this is both a real time protector and scanner...correct?)

So, if I go with option 1, do I have to run Malware Bytes scan on a schedule (like weekly basis?)

If I go with option 2 and I am not mistaken that it is realtimprotector and scanner should I then uninstall malware bytes?

Finally, if you have any input about either option (such as downsides etc.) please let me know.

Feedback is welcome and greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome to MajorGeeks.com. You first posting got caught up in the filters. In future if this appears to happen, be patient and an Administrator will approve such postings :)

Your version of MalwareBytes is free so it does not include realtime protection. You have to manually run it on a regular schedule, as you suggest, along with Comodo which has no scanner.

You are correct in that Spyware Terminator is both a realtime protector AND scanner. This is the path of least hassle, but really it is down to personal preference.

Just make sure you do not install more than one realtime protector as it will slow down your computer :)

    Hi Lev,

Thank you for answering my questions! The path of least hassle sounds good to me too.

I'll keep in mind your suggestion for dealing with disappearing posts should it happen again.
