Decided its time to upgrade, so what should I go for? I've been looking at
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824116229 for a while now and price recently dropped by about 100$. Or should I go with a nice 19" LCD? Anyone have any suggestions

Criteria in CRTs I look for:
Dot pitch
sharpness
contrast ratio
"flat"

LCDs:
G2G speed (ms)
contrast ratio

I would go with an LCD Digital. CRT's are not as good for your eyes. Also, LCD's are like the PCI-E of monitors... And CRT like AGP.

not come across any reviews tho, but I do like and use Samsung LCDs and with a 4ms refresh rate maybe very good for a gamer?

In one of the reviews it states
Maybe worth taking a look at also?

Probably not a big deal, but is a CRT not faster than LCD (as in response times)?
If I'm not mistaken, this is a point that should be taken into consideration by a gamer...

I have seen LCDs with 8ms response times, so I'm sure there's monitors that are more than acceptable.

Forgot about this thread, well CRTs are under 2ms (or was it 1ms) response time. But i think that anything over 4ms causes blurs on CRTs while playing games. The thing thats putting me down from a CRT is that crt's 21" are about 80pnds; on the other hand i fear dead pixels on LCDs.

I wouldn't worry about dead pixels. Even though most companies say a minimum of 6 or 8 pixels, the reality is that most LCDs don't have any pixels, and the ones that do usually have less than 3. Also, many places will take back the LCD if you are courteous yet forceful. I know Dell will definitely take back a monitor no questions asked (as long as you are within their 21 days).

Personally I love my 20" Widescreen Dell LCD. There is only a small amount of blurring, but you really get used to it after a week or 2. Switching back and forth from a CRT to an LCD you can notice a difference, but if you use LCDs all the time, you get used to it. Play Counter-Strike:Source on a 20" widescreen monitor and you'll never want anything else. (except maybe a 24")

Im stuck betweenVP191b and vx924. 924 has fuzzy video play back, but 191 is a bit slower.

No Problem, Move to Korea, Samsung has Zero Dead Pixel Policy there!
http://hardware.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/01/01/1440201&tid=196&tid=152&tid=1

I just got 19" Samsung 930b last month (Love it) bought it at Best Buy If you buy thier Extra Warranty it has Zero Dead Pixel Policy, get "one" dead Pixel they will replace it. ( I wounder should I bought it, Ah too late now )
Without the extra Warranty thing on Monitors/LCD's they (Best Buy) have 14 day anyreason refund/or exchange with reciept, Any reason includes even one dead Pixel.
Samsung "officially on the USA Web" States for 17" & 19" 10 or more bad pixels before replacement.
I've heard they have applied zero pix policy on 19' TFT pannels for the US & Austrialia, I'd call Samsung on that if was vital.

I got a 21" crt love it too all 80lbs, it might be 100lbs "Ah more to love"
The Color's on my 19" LCD are just Awsome!
I think I'll keep em Both, Who need's a desktop anyway!

I've always thought the color looked so much better on a CRT. As for the weight, that's only a problem when you're setting it up. :D

If it were me, I would go with the 191, just so I could play all those old school shmups in their proper aspect ratio(as in taller than it is wider.) But otherwise the response time on the 924 would do it if I wasn't an old school freak :) Although I wonder why the 191 is more expensive if the 924 has better specs. Would the contrast ratio really justify the extra 100$

Speaking of aspect ratio, my understanding is that LCDs are a bit off because they use square pixels while CRTs use rectangular pixels, and because they've been the standard everythings based around the rectangular pixel as far as aspect ratio is concerned. I know I was looking at desktop backrounds and I had two identical pics and the 1280x1024 version just didn't look right. Of course it was on a CRT.
