Decisions, Desicions...

I have a pent 4 3.0 gig w/ 4 gigs of ram, would a AMD Athlon 64x2 duo core 3600+ 1.9 gig w/ 1 gig of ram be alot faster.....?

 

Depends on what you normally do on a day to day basis. If you transcode a lot of videos then the dual AMD would be like a night and day difference and it is that dramatic of a change. The rest does snap better but not that noticeable. Thinking of buying a second hand machine?

 

my buddy is selling his...i do alot of gaming, my pent 4 runs my games great, but i hear that the duo core would run alot faster...kinda indesisive. My pent runs really good and fast .... but i know theres faster....just trying to get the best bang for my buck i guess. Alot of the newer games call for a duo core but my pent 4 runs them...i know soon i will have to part w/ it and upgrade ...just trying to get info on the duo cores cause i dont have much knowledge on them. Im guessing that my DIAMOND ATI Radeon HD 4870 PCIE 1024MB GDDR5 video card will hook right up...

 

Oops man, you mentioned gaming, not my strong point. However you do have a great video card as long as your friend's mobo has a PCI-E slot which I'm pretty sure it does. Plus DDR memory is fairly expensive too.
