ok, I use DeepFreeze on my computer. had it for about 2 months, working perfectly.

Working GREAT! love it, dont have to worry about viruses/spyware ....

but lately, for the past few days, EVERY time i shutdown (whether by a program that shuts down the computer, or by Start->shut down), it would go shutdown, go through the blue logoff screen, says its logging off, then says its shutting down, and just sits there infintely (i left it going all night once).

it doesnt seem to shut down.

if i unfreeze it, it works fine.

    specs:
    WinXP pro
    Dell P4 1.7Ghz, 512RAM
    drives protected: C:\
    drives unprotected: D:\, E:\
alot of settings in tweakui (desktop folder location, my doc folder location, etc) are moved to the D: drive, etc etc.

    any ideas?

What service pack are you upto on XP?

What new software, drivers or hardware have you installed just before this happened? as this seems possibly to be a service or software thats not ending correctly at shutdown.

have you tried to re-install DeepFreeze?

i am on SP2. before installation of DF, i did a fresh install.

formatted the computer, installed winXP SP1, installed SP2, installed all updates from windows/office update. installed all my programs, then froze it.

worked fine for a couple months, but now started to do this. during its time, id only unfreeze to make minor updates to the computer (changing settings in some programs), and windows updates. the most recent change i made was just program changes to adobe photoshop (checked for updates, installed a plugin, etc). froze it, and was still working fine. i dont use photoshop on a daily basis, so not sure its photoshop causing this?

ill try reinstalling deepfreeze. ill uninstall it, leave it off. turn computer on and off (and leave computer on for a good amount of time) a few times. then reinstall.

ill also test shutting down as much as possible before i shut it down and see what happens.

ok, i think i found the problem ...

something with ZoneAlarm and Deepfreeze. if i shut down ZA before i shut down the computer, it shuts down fine. otherwise, it hangs up when shutting down.

    so:

    1. know of any issues/problems between the 2?

    2. or, how do you do a batch file? maybe i can create a batch file that will shut down ZA ... wait about 10 seconds, then call another program that shuts the computer down (instead of start > shut down > turn off computer).

i have tried ending the process (end process in CTL+ALT+DEL), but wont let me. only way i have been able to is to close it out through the program.

but would be much easier if i could do a batch file to shut down Zone Alarm, then the computer.

unless there is a known issue with ZA and deepfreeze?

    1. Not off hand as I dont use deepfreeze, but try Deepfreeze's support, they may have workaround or fix?

    2. why not try another software firewall say Outpost, Sygate or Kerio ( free )
