After setting a static ip to allow me to forward ports, when computer is turned on I have no internet, msconfig shows a blank for default gateway. The default gateway address is also missing from the "manage network connections" window.
When I manually enter it into the window every thing works as it should until I turn the computer off. There is another machine on the same wired network, dynamic ip that works fine.
Vista ultimate on a wired network
    DLink 2642B router
Any help will be appreciated, Old Dog

Thanks for the reply, I configured the router to allow 10 dynamic addresses and set the static outside that range. I used the Portforward guide to set the address. I just had a thought while writing this answer, I might have to allow the static address somewhere in the router settings. I'll check it out. Thanks again for the reply.

    Yes tgell'
I followed the portforward guide exactly, plus a couple of others. As i mentioned it works fine if I manually enter the ip in network connections. It just disappears on boot up. I have now a serious connectivity problems that I have to sort out with my ISP before I can have another go at the port forward

I have been reading through a few threads and it seems some of the problems have been resolved by either updating the NIC drivers or resetting TCP/IP.

Back on line, ISP'S are a blight on humanity.
I had to re-set the modem to factory defaults and re-enter all the details when sorting out problems with my ISP, I then went through the port forwarding process again and it was successful. I have no idea why it didn't work before but all is good now. I would like to find out why and will follow those threads suggested. Thanks again for your help tgell.
