Default Gateway not available

I got a new dell netbook last month. It has been working fine until a couple of days ago. Now, I am unable to connect to the internet. The error message I receive is "default gateway not available". My other laptop works just fine with my modem so I know it has something to do with my computer. I am completely computer illiterate and have no ideas. Please help!

 

Is the netbook running Win7? What type of modem are you connecting to?

I am assuming since this is a newish netbook it is running vista or Win7 so you can right click on the little network icon down by the clock and then click troubleshoot problems. Any luck with this?

Did you recently install any software? especially anti-virus or firewall software?

 

If you still have no luck could you click start then type cmd in the search programs and files box and hit enter. Now you should have a command prompt. Type ipconfig /all and hit enter. Since you can't connect it's probably not feasible to get you to cut and paste the result so could you let me know what it says for a few of the things. If you are trying to connect via a wired connection find where it says ethernet adapter local area connection. Does it say yes or no for DHCP enabled. What does it it show for the IPv4 address, the subnet mask, default gateway, dhcp server, and dns servers?

oh yeah and what does it say for description? this will tell us what Network card you have.
