    Hello,

I am running Windows 7, 64-Bit, Comodo Internet Security and have a Linksys 2.4 GHz Wireless-B 802.11b router.

A few of my symptoms and steps to solve them include:

    1) The light for the "Wireless-B" light is not on although all other lights work... "Power," "Ethernet 1" (which is what I'm working on) and "Internet"
    2) The wireless internet is not showing up. There is no signal of a wireless internet existing.
    3) The 192.168.1.1 gateway does not take me to the administrative settings for the router
    4) Through administrative command I typed "ipconfig" and my default gateway reads "68.106.96.1"
    5) As I type 68.106.96.1 into a few of my browsers, nothing comes up.
    6) To fix my default gateway, I have gone through network settings and clicked "diagnose" and as it finishes it reads "the default gateway is not available fixed"
    7) I go to retry both 192.168.1.1 and 68.106.96.1 into my browser as nothing comes up as before.
    8) I repeat steps 6 and 7 and nothing proactive
    9) I then reset the router and modem by turning them off completely and restarting my computer and repeating steps 4-7 and nothing still.
    10) I am confused and frustrated :cry
    11) I go into command to type "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig \renew" and nothing. I still get:
    "Windows IP Configuration

    Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

    Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : dc.dc.cox.net
    Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::74b4:3ff9:65d4:5fd6%10
    IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 68.106.111.208
    Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.240.0
    Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 68.106.96.1"
    13) 68.106.96.1 still doesnt work.
    12) I've gone through many gateway supports and still nothing.... http://support.gateway.com/s/Checklists/Q42006/ck200611068.shtml

    Please help! Thanks!!

If your Wireless light is not on on the Router then it's not broadcasting. It would also appear that you are getting your external IP address passed to your computer. The 68.106.96.1 gateway will not be accessible by you, it is associated with your external IP and can only be accesses by the ISP.

It sounds to me like your Router has died but the network switch is still working if that's what your connected to when you get the 68.106.x.x address.

Have you tried resetting the Router??

The 802.11B Router is rather old and should be upgraded anyway.

    Thanks!

I didn't realize how old it was for I have just been using it. I will replace it.

Ive been getting the same problem forever and I have the latest's drivers for the onboard HP Gbit NiC. I notice my Cox connect running a bit slower or acting up, nothing serious speedwise but I noticed the pattern so what I do is hit diagnose and it resets the nic and says (default Gateway Fixed) after doing its thing. Usually I never notice until Im downloading alot... i.e. 200MB file min. Just a weird fluke? I get the same problem when plugged direct into the Sci Atlanta Cable Modem... it seems to work when the gateway changed/altered/limbo/ghosted and I dont know if theres an actual issue until I diagnose it... weird... tried different nics/boxes and same results w/dif os... current is win7 64bit. I always thought it was sending it to a different gateway to audit my info... who knows... any help is appreciated as Im getting this issue plugged directly into the cable modem...
