At some point recently (don't know if any software is responsible), I attempted to change the volume on my Win2K PC using the speaker icon in the taskbar. Instead of getting the .wav file, I received an internal speaker beep. Going into the control panel, I found that the "default sound" choice is missing on the list of sound events. However, if I logoff and logon as a different user, everything works normally.

Has anyone encountered this problem? Is there a registry key that needs to be changed?

My PC config is: PIII - 800 Mhz, Win2K Professional, IE6 SP1, 512MB RAM. All service packs and updates are current.

    Thanks in advance,

sounds like you are pretty comfortable with the OS..

go into your control panel. Sounds and multimedia and select the sound option that you need to "fix". then you can browse for the sound that you want played when that event happens. Apply it and you should be all set.
