Defrag doesn't seem to work

    I have a Maxtor 69gb hard drive using the NTFS file system and am using O&O defragger. Last night I tried to defrag my hard drive but when I got up this morning it was stuck on 7%. Never seen it do this before. Is there a problem with the hard drive? It currently as about 33% free space.

    Have you tried to run degrag through the dos prompt, or recovery console?

    Hi Bigsy. go to run and type chkdsk and then try again assuming of course you are using XP as you never gave any information on your computer other than HD.

    Ok I have run chkdsk and it found a few problems. Will now try and run the defrag again and see what happens.

    Ran defrag again and everything worked perfectly.

    Recommend running defrag periodically, say once a week, or so, to keep hard drive files contiguous. I run Norton Speed disk usually every day after cleaning crap from ny laptop. Bazza
