defrag probs

Hi
I have tried to use defragment from the properties/ tools if a given drive, all I get is a message rambling about D:\utils\diskee~1\***.msc cannot be run or something to that effect. If I start Defrag from the start\progs\accessories etc it runs perfectly. I think it has something to do with a Porg called Diskeeper that I have uninstalled from my PC. Is there anyway I can get it to work from the right click\properties etc again

The system is looking for the defragging initiative on D:\utils\diskee~1\
As you mentioned DiskKeeper must have modified the related registry entries because the correct path should have been (assuming Windows XP was installed on the C drive) C:\Windows\System32\dfrg.msc

You would need to do a search on that in the registry.

I installed and uninstalled DiskKeeper Lite and didn't have the same problem so I am guessing yours acted up, I also strongly recommend that you run ScanDisk at least once before running the defrag utility.

Until someone figured it out, why don't you try to create a shortcut onto your desktop or use:
START > RUN > dfrg.msc > OK

 

Here is a start, check for this key in the registry (Start > Run > regedit > OK)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfrg once you click on the 'Dfrg' on the right hand side, the values/data should be:

(Default) -- (Data not defined)
FreeSpaceErrorLevel -- 15
PathName -- %systemroot%\system32
ResourceDllName %systemroot%\system32\DfrgRes.dll

if you see the data on yours is different, missing or you have any other values, that could be the reason.
