About 2 days ago Smart Defrag found over 1,000 fragments on C: drive, today it says there are over 3,ooo. Is that possible? I'm running Vista Ultimate 64 O/S.

How much free space do you have on the drive?

If it's a larger, recent drive with ~25% free space or more, defragging every few weeks would be plenty. With an older, smaller drive, lack of contiguous free space might be a problem.

It's partition size is 294.04 GB with 200 GB free space on C:

You've got roughly 2/3 of the drive free so, as satrow says every few weeks should be enough.

As above - but ensure you don't have two different defraggers active, they could be using different algorithms and each would be creating more work for the other!

WinContig might be useful to check for large non contiguous files, Contig can defrag single files, Page Defrag can defrag the files that can't be defragged with Windows running:

But use them sparingly, check once every six months or so and don't use a defragger at boot time on a regular basis, 3rd party tools especially, can sometimes trigger BSODs during the boot process.
