I have a bunch of huge fragmented files on my e drive.

They are pretty big files, more than 500MB.

This is a picture of the hard drive analysis. I tried using WinContig and the Microsoft defragmenter. The message that comes up for WinContig goes something like "there is not enough contiguous free space" blah blah and it gives up. I assume that the same case is for Microsoft's defragmenter.

Could anybody enlighten me on which is a better defragmenter?

It's not going to matter what defragger you use if there isn't enough contiguous space. Does it tell you which file it stops on, so you can work out how big the file size is that you need to have space for?

Another option is to back up to a external or flash drive so that you can remove it from your hard drive, making enough space for defragmenting to take place.

FWIW, Microsoft defragger isn't so great. I haven't experience with the other one you mention. Personally I like this one http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5318

I know which files are being stopped on. I actually deleted all the big files (they belong to my brother) XD. And now it works, so thanks for the advice :).

I was actually looking for a solution in terms of a defragger which could mash all of your data to the front of the drive so as to make enough contiguous free space.

But it can't do that, with out having free space to contain said largest file.

Thanks, I will look at the software. In the meantime, I found a cheap solution by deleting all my brother's stuff, so... should be good now.

Paragon claim that their "Total Defrag" will still work with only 1% free space.

I can't vouch for this as I've never let a hard drive get this full.
