    Every time I get an email with a link to click in it, when I do click on the link, it takes forever to activate.. My pointer turns to the hand and stays there, locks up any other action in OE until it finally activates to that link. Any suggestions? Now this happens whether I have the browser up or not. :confused:

    I have out what the problem with Outlook Express 6.0. It has some kinda of conflict with windows messenger/msn messenger. Here is how I fixed it.

    Sometimes removing or disabling Windows (or MSN) Messenger causes OE to open slowly. This will be shown by an entry in the system error log:

    The server {FB7199AB-79BF-11D2-8D94-0000F875C541} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

    To fix this, open Regedit and navigate to this key:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
    \CLSID
    \{FB7199AB-79BF-11d2-8D94-0000F875C541}
    \InProcServer32

    In the right-hand pane, double-click on the (Default) value and delete whatever is entered there, leaving it blank. Click OK. Now perform exactly the same step with the key directly underneath, namely

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
    \CLSID
    \{FB7199AB-79BF-11d2-8D94-0000F875C541}
    \LocalServer32

    Once both (Default) values are empty, OE will open normally

    I hope this fixes your problem.

    Joe, I thank you for your response but I am running 98SE w/ v6 OE and I don't have that \CLSID\ anywhere.

    I don't think that what you are asking has anything to do with the problem. It was okay until just recently. But since you ask"
    500mhz PIII
    20 gig HD
    384 mb ram
    Win98SE with all the latest updates.
    I use Firefox as my browser the latest but whether I use it or IE it makes no diifference.

    In Windows 98, you are allowed to "Repair" Windows Internet Explorer (and Outlook Express by doing so)...

    Go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel, and select Internet Explorer. Choose the "Repair" option and see if that helps...

    Do you have Firefox set as your default browser? If so, I would set IE as default and see if that makes a difference.

    Believe it or not, I have done all those things and we still be in the same spot. Oh well, I guess I should not worry too much about it as I am in the process of building up a new puter.
