    Hello,

Of late I am finding that it is taking an unduly long time for the CPU to get sufficient power for start up. For example it takes about 15 minutes after switching the UPS on, before I can switch the CPU on. Even after switching the CPU on, I find that the connection to the optical mouse keeps flickering and I would need to re-jack the USB port of the mouse so that it gets and remains connected.

Can someone please help me in explaining why this is happening and how may this be prevented?

    regards.

When you say UPS do you mean, UPS - uninteruptable power supply or PSU - Power supply unit.

I assume PSU so first download CPUID Hardware monitor or speedfan or similar and check your voltages.
Also might want to check the power connectors onto your motherboard, take them off and then reseat them (turn off and unplug from power first of course).

Are you having any other issues?
Any other usb devices playing up?
    Is it a cordless mouse?

    Hello,

I mean an Uninterruptible Power Supply which is like a battery and gives power backup in case of power failure. The nmouse is an ordinary optical scroll mouse with cord. There are no other USB devices attched except for the webcam.

    Kind regards.

OK sorry I thought you just had your acronym's mixed up. I really don't have any experience with UPS's.
Sounds like the UPS is the issue as far as getting power though (not necessarily the mouse issue).
    Is it an aging UPS?
Does everything work properly if you remove the UPS from the loop?

    Hello,

The UPS is not very old. Besides removing it from the loop also doesnt change the situation. Now the situation has further aggravated. When i wud plug in the Mouse to the USB port, the connection would remain for abt a minute or so and then the mouse would go dead again. I wud need to repeat the procedure of pluggin in etc again and again. It's extremely frustrating to work this way.

    Regards.

    Hello,

I have got some more facts and figures with me this time. Please see if someone can help me.

I have a microsoft optical scroll USB mouse. This had been working fine for the last 4 years. Of late I am finding the following symptoms:

    1. When I am plugging the mouse to ANY of the four USB ports, the mouse is getting powered for a few seconds and the red light under the mouse starts glowing in the usual way.

    2. Shortly afterwards (10-15 seconds) a message appears "USB device not properly connected. You may experience difficulty in working with the hardware.

    3. After this the mouse stops functioning. Till this 15-20 seconds the mouse DOES work. But after that the mouse just goes dead.

    4. I went into the device manager and found a yellow exclamation mark against the Human Device. When I went further in, I found that the message Error Code (10) is mentioned in the message box.

Can someone please help me as to what should be dopne to rectify the same?

    Regards.

Have you tried to uninstall the device driver and then reinstall it fresh? What were the last half dozen things that you have done to your computer?(ie. software upgrades, driver upgrades, bios upgrades, etc..) Try to work backwards from there.

    Hello,

I did format the C drive of my computer due to a trojan attach. Having done that then I installed Win XP and MS Office. Lao I had run the Intel CD that comes with some drivers etc.

But this should not matter much I guess becasue even before than that the problem existed. It only aggravated and now the mouse just doesnt work. I know it is not a hardware problem becasue when I detach the same mouse and put it on another PC, it works perfectly.

Is it possible to find out if the USB ports are damaged or not (not physically, but technically)?

    Regards.

Easiest way is to open Device manager, click on mice and other pointing devices then right click on your mouse and select properties. Next. click on the Drivers tab and select update driver.

Have already done that. It says that 'there are no new drivers required for your system'.
