Hi I want to do a clean install of windows 7 the pc has XP on it now. The hard drive is divided into 2 partitions C & F, but C is not big enough to take W7 so I want to have just one drive eg the whole drive. When I do the install do I delete both C & F to get to get just one partition

if you have two you would want to delete both then choose to make one large drive, so yes, delete the two drives (after you have backed any information you want to keep first) then proceed with the installation to format and install on the one hard drive *partition/volume*

i found my answer...may want to consider this on the win7 machine:

"If you want to run Windows 7 on your PC, here's what it takes:
    ■1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor

■1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)

■16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)

■DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver"

    **edit**
never mind the front side bus to utilize the os... I got the vista rc when it was available for my machine for fun, PC133 with P4 non-hyper 1.8GHz 1.5 Physical RAM, it wasn't fun. I have done the last upgrade possible to a P4 non-hyper 2.8GHz with copper sink...still don't think the pc would like it, Front side bus isn't enough...

What specs are your 'older machine'?

just ran this on mine, failed on some points including graphic adapter with software issues. main points were good, cpu (so-so), amount of ram (fsb is a concern to me), and amount of hdd space available.
