    Hi.

How can I delete a specific section in an audio file with Audacity. Let's say the mp3 is 60 minutes long and I want to delete 27:06 to 32:35 but keep the rest for export.

    Thanks.

You do that by highlighting the part you want to delete and then hitting your Delete key; highlighting can be done by dragging your mouse over the part you want to delete. Then, of course, you need to save the change(s) before existing Audacity.

If you want to undo a deletion, click on Edit (on main menu) and select Undo.

    Hi usafveteran.

I know how to delete like that but it's not useful for deleting a specific large section where the 2 ends are far apart.

Well, 27:06 to 32:35 out of a 60 minute recording does not seem like a large section. But, a few points come to mind that should help. If you want to select a larger section than what you see on screen, just keep holding your left mouse button down and move it to the far right of the screen; this will cause the highlighting to continue as the panel scrolls to the left. And, of course, a large section can be split into smaller parts. Also, if you click the View menu and select Zoom In, the graphical display of the recording track gets squeezed/compressed into a shorter bar; this makes selecting a large section easier.

Ah, another technique. Thanks for posting it.

To add a point of clarification to your preceding post, the start and end points are typed in Start box and End box at the bottom of the Audacity window. Just wanted to say that in case some viewers overlook those boxes; they are a bit difficult to read in your image, at least on my laptop, and I don't think that part of your procedure was perfectly clear from your post.

Apparently, the default format for the time in those boxes is hh:mm:ss + milliseconds. That format can be changed by clicking the little drop down arrow at the right end of the boxes. To type a value in the boxes, click on the number/digit you want to change and type the desired number. The cursor will automatically jump to the next changeable digit.

I agree, the text is a bit difficult to see (I wanted to keep down the image file size). Thanks for clarifying my explanation.
