Deleted my sound.. help please:)

I was cleaning up my computer in Add/Remove Programs, and you'll never guess - I deleted my sound driver.. I don't know what make/model it is

I've read many of the threads/forums, but haven't found any that can really help me. However, I did download the Everest program, and I found a bit out about my computer.

My computer is Custom Built so I don't know what make or model it is.
The Motherboard is an ASRock P4V88.. thats about all I know right now..

the audio driver for your motherboard is located here http://www.asrock.com/support/Download/dl_p4V88.htm its about 21.83mb for the full driver.

I'm not sure how to open these files. Windows is asking me what I want to do, but I'm not sure: "Use the Web service to find the appropriate program" or "Select the Program from the list"? orr.. something else?

Which OS are you using? ( windows XP Me 98 ) plus which files did you download the .ZIP or the .RAR

This free program will un-compress those file/s for you ExtractNow

*to save time alot of files on the internet are compressed to as small a saize as possible, ut to un-compress then you need in the case of .ZIP files win ME or XP and for all others like .RAR etc you need a 3rd party application like above to un-cpmpress the files.

If you get stuck just post as much info like which Windows version and which type files you downloaded and either myself or another member will give you a step by step run through.

i am using Windows XP.. and i downloaded the .RAR files..

i downloaded that program - ExtractNow.. but it isnt working.. there are 4 files i need to un-compress.. however, it will only allow me to do the first one :S it says: "one or more of the files you've dropped is an un-supported file type : RAR" .. i have NO idea what this mean because i am so damn computer impaired.

i dont know what else to do..

laur_v dont worry we will sort this out at your speed, I wouldnt say your computer impaired, these are most likely things you have never come across before... we all had to start somewhere.

we have 2 options or routes to take,

1. just drop into ExtractNow the 1st .RAR file and uncompress ( if its the type of RAR file I think it could be it doesnt need the others in the same drop box as they should find the other parts )

2. Download this, which is only a trial version but WinRAR once installed just double click the 1st part and extract.

I will double check these steps at home to make sure they work ok ( sometimes even computer companies have faulty downloads SO if your on broadband it maybe worth also getting the ZIP file as all you need to do with that one in XP is to right click the downloaded file and choose extract ) at present I'm just leaving for the day, so sorry for not getting back sooner as I have not been in office.

i'm downloading that program now.. hope it works..

and i would download the .ZIP file, but im not using broadband. ill just see how this works and get back to you.

i downloaded it, double clicked the 1st file.. and then everything the file contains came up:

OK so you have downloaded and installed WinRAR?

you have all 4 parts? ( I have downloaded them also so I can go through the steps with you )

On your desktop right click anywhere thats not on an icon and choose New > Folder this will create a folder we can exctract the files to amd name it Audio Driver so you can store it somewhere incase this happens again.

OK great goto the loaction the RAR files downloaded and double click the 1st RAR file and it lists all the files within, choose from the top icons Extract To > Choose a location is next so at the bottom of the list should be a folder named Audio Driver, click that folder so its highlighted then click OK ..... the program will then extract all 4 of the parts so no need to extract No2 etc

once extracted inside the Audio Driver folder on your desktop will be all the files, double click the files named setup ( looks like a PC with an open box in front of it ) and that shoudl install your driver.
