Deleted user account can not logon

Help please!

I purchased a computer at an estate sale. I deleted the former owners account. I still was getting his account on startup, press ok(no password required) and the computer would continue booting. I wanted to completely remove that account so I used the "control userpasswords2" to permanently delete the user. Now, his name still comes up on the login in screen and asks for the password! I cannot get in even in safe mode! The OS is XP home with SP2.
