Deleting anything error

    Hello everybody,

I've just been making some modifications to my PC and I thought that, as I've had one of those annoying boot-up errors popping up, I would just do a system restore and clean up some stuff.

Everything is now working fine but for some reason, I've developed an even more annoying error. This is that whenever I try to delete something I get an error message reading 'Can't load rtl70.bpl'. I assume that rt means something like 'run-time'? I'm not very technologically literate, so I wouldn't know. Could anybody please help me?

Incidentally, there is another error that does not annoy me quite so insistently but still baffles me. Sometimes when I boot up the PC since fitting my graphics card, there is a 'No Signal' error. This is more than just usually solved by the ingenious, time-honoured strategy of pulling the plug out :) and restarting, and if doesn't work on the first restart then it will on the second. I thought this might be the connection, but if that was the case, why does it frequently come and go like that?

Any help would be very gratefully received.

    Thanks,

    Steve

    P.S. Nice forum!

    Thanks for the reply, peta.

I tried what it suggested but I can find neither a folder by the name of 'Borland' nor, at the moment, a .bpl file of any sort. I deleted a lot of files just now so it could be anything.......

i would do a repair, stick in xp cd you got, hit enter to install f8 accept then you should be at a screen that basically says r for repair or esc to install (removing what you have now) i do this all the time on bench work in shop to fix all kinds of crazy pc problems, if you have a norton system works cd or norton system works try a windoctor scan see if you get anything before repairing windows, the repair wont remove any files on hard drive just removes and rewrites all windows files, its basically just like doing an upgrade over top of an older windows op sys. the only problem ive seen after a repair is that a program or two may need uninstalled and reinstalled, just today i had a computer with norton installed that after a repair had registry errors, however I'm not for positive that the errors i had with norton weren't pre existing, the computer would not boot into any mode of operation for me to check things out before a repair. of course when i was brought this computer gateway told the customer that their hard drive was probably bad and sold and shipped them an 80 gb to replace their 40gb, before i did aything to computer i took out the hard drive and scanned it in my bench for any hard drive problems, none to find, im rambling i know....

    try that repair :p

oh if you hit r at the wrong spot in windows setup you'll be at a command line which you dont want if this happens you need to pass through that part by agreeing to install xp, the nest time your given more than one choice there should be that "r" to repair the windows installation

I don't know how much time I have to write this before my screen freezes but I will just say that I performed a system restore to my later settings. Restoring to my earlier settings originally resulted in this file delete error. The main reason for doing so was to avoid a startup error, which I found easier to solve, so I chose those settings instead.

However, now I am faced with a far worse problem. Tonight, I have booted up several times only to be greeted with a 'No Signal Check Cable' message. I thought this was due to the fact that I have just installed a new graphics card which appears to have been the source of most of the problems. I fiddled with the connection. I don't know what I did right, but it appeared to work. And yet things got worse. I found that the whole PC froze after a few minutes of activity. Every successive bootup then seemed to stop at the point where Windows XP is loading and the blue bar is zipping across the screen (or not, in my case).

I have attempted a restart via the setup menu and chosen 'Last Known Good Configuration' after 'Start Windows Normally' failed to work. I then decided to go into safe mode and succeeded in partially restoring previous settings before, again, the PC froze. When I rebooted, I received a message saying (I think) that it had abandoned the restore option. It then led me to the same screen that I was on last time my PC worked okay, but it still froze last time and now I'm wondering how long I've got. I wonder if my internet connection (absent at the time of writing) has anything to do with this.

One really worrying thing is that in my 'My Documents' folder, there are some watermarked images (such as when you have items in Windows that you have selected to cut-and-paste) that I still cannot delete. This has nothing to do with the original error described in my first posting because these files just appeared there. They look like the album covers of some of the music on my hard drive and yet Windows informs me that they are system files that I should not delete as they will affect the proper functioning of some important program.

Lots of problems, I'm sure you'll agree, but at least I finally managed to post this message.....phew!

    Please help!!!

I found out that it was indeed whenever I got onto the internet that the PC eventually froze, so there must be a worm or something acting via the internet. Can somebody pleeeeeaaaaasseeee give me some advice before I go nuts?!?

P.S. I'm writing this on a public PC because my own PC is too problematic.

  10. For the boot problem i would say start up in the recovery console which you can do from the windows cd and run these two commands EXACTLY as a type them: "fixboot" (no quotes) and "fixmbr" (no quotes) this will write a new boot sector to windows and may fix the freeze at startup problem. The monitor problem i would guess that you have a corrupted video driver and you have to reinstall that. And when you do get into windows dont put the cd away yet, I want you to go to start- run- then type this exact command without quotes: "sfc /scannow" notice the space between the space and the /scannow. Let that run and do its thing then come back and tell us how your running.

I am completely and totally baffled by every new oddity that appears on my system. To cut a long story short, my PC failed completely from the last time I posted about the 'No Signal' error, so I sent my PC to a friend of mine to fix. He sent it back, claiming that it was a problem with the power pack, which he replaced, and then said that the PC booted up with no problems.

Now, however, I have had a couple of days decent use out of the PC and there is something again coming back to haunt me. The most persistent of which is this 'Login account failure' message that claims that my account is disabled and results in the inaccessibility of most programs. I believe this happens as soon as I try to save anything. I did have another error, though and which, since I rebooted the time that it occured, has not yet returned. This involved the PC flashing on and off at approx. 10 second intervals and a display bug that led to lots of icons not appearing unless you hovered over them and some icons appearing blurred....a bit like the digital blur from the Matrix films.

Thanks for your help new tech guy, but it seems that those particular errors have now disappeared. As I said before, of the new errors, the former error is certainly the most serious and abiding. Does anybody have any advice about what I should do, please?

P.S. I still have the same watermarked files appearing as mentioned previously (the ones that the system appears to recognise as system files essential to the normal running of the programs and possibly the PC itself). It may be the case that if I delete these then the problem is solved. And yet I don't fancy the idea if there are risks. I still have some files coming via email from a friend which I'd like to burn onto a CD and I'm afraid taking this action may wipe my hard drive or something more serious.

  13. Ok have you tried any registry cleaner yet? If you have not i would say it is time to do so and see if that helps.

  14. Well i think i have a feeling as to what those watermarked files are appearing. There system files that are part of windows apearing because you have viewing of hidden files enabled. If you disable that you may solve that problem.

Thanks a lot :) . Those watermarked files were as you said. I think I remember following some other person's instructions for a different fault and forgetting to reset things as they were.

Interesting that you should mention a registry cleaner. For a while now, I've been aware of them and even tried downloading them from www.download.com but a hell of a lot of them seem to cost money. As I generally don't go in for throwing money at problems (especially PC ones that often fix themselves when someone makes a breakthrough), I try to find some good free software as much as possible. Do you know of anything suitable that may do the job?

  16. Well for registry cleaners im sure if you look in the registry section of majorgeeks.com you can find some good ones. Not too long ago my dad found some good free ones @ download.com and i deleted that email. Anyway, just look in those places or maybe good old google can come in handy.

    It goes on.....

Now I've taken newtechguy's advice and explored my system for anything out of the ordinary and found next to nothing. And yet.....there are times now when I try to access something via windows and I am told that there is no access and the 'user account is disabled'.

Things revert back to normal as soon as I reboot, but it's more than just a little suspicious, huh?

Once again, I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks, guys.

  18. Have you tried doing a windows repair?

    Hmmm...a Windows Repair?

  20. Yes I have a feeling somthing is corrupted in windows and needs to be redone. This is where you can reinstall the operateing system without affecting other programs that you already have installed. Do you know how to run a winxp repair?
