I am selling my computer soon to a buddy of mine and I was wondering if there is some program that will permanently erase everything that I deleted from my recycle bin. I trust him but I had several clients' information on there at variuos times and I don't want it falling into the wrong hands should he sell it later. I don't want to completely erase the hard drive because I have several programs on here that he could use and I don't feel like reinstalling them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Major Geeks kemosabe you might like to try Eraser - http://www.majorgeeks.com/Eraser_d4221.html available here at MG, or reformat your drive and erase all data. Just remember all deleted data can be recovered if the other party wants to.

This freeware utility will do the job very nicely: Cleaner v1.1

Cleaner v1.1 securely "overwrites" deleted file data which is still left over (located in free disk space) even after you empty the Windows recycle bin. After using this utility; restoration of the deleted file information from your hard drive becomes virtually impossible; since the data on the files are overwritten.

No installation is necessary. Simply extract the "Cleaner.exe" from the .zip file and you're good to go. Select the drive you want to clean (to 'overwrite' the files) and click "Start."

Important Note: I have thoroughly tested this utility on several computers using Win/98/2000/XP and can attest to the fact that it works very well; however it is best to allow the process to take place "overnight" because the 'cleaning' process can take several hours depending on the size of the drive being cleaned. If you have more than one drive, when the process is over simply start the Cleaner v1.1 again and choose the additional drive.

    Good Luck!
