Can anyone help me out please. I have an old computer that I would like to delete windows and all programs off of and start over. This computer had a worm at one time and the guy who came to fix it basically deleted the files the worm was in and put a new version of windows over the first one. So everytime you boot up it asks you what version you want. Somehow I have ended up with 3 windows on the computer. I want to get rid of all of them and start over. We have had nothing but problems with it since the 2nd windows was downloaded. I have the disk which says GLED product recovery cd-rom. When I put it in it runs and stops at the screen which saysset up windows xp, create a partition, or delete a selected partition. Where do I go from here?

Lots of help for this problem that you're having can be found here. Also try this link here as well.

Important Note: I guess this goes without saying; but just in case, I should mention the fact that once you have deleted all of the partitions all of your data (within these partitions) will be irretrievably gone for good! Therefore make sure that you familiarize yourself with all of the necessary steps involved here before proceeding and also make sure that you have backed up all the important data first! ;)

    Good Luck!

    Hello stac69!:)

You would need to delete all of your current partitions if you want to completely clean the drive of the other windows installations. Once that is done you will then create a partition..if you have a smaller drive (20 - 40 gig) most users choose to have the whole drive as a single partition but you could break it down more if you want to. Once the partition(s) are created you will then proceed with formatting the partition(s) and installation of windows will follow.:)

Following on from Abby's advice and reading your original post, I feel that this pictorial guide will help you througth the steps to delete partitions ( step 5 of the guide covers that step, step 6 shows how to create a new partition ) and the rest in installing XP.

When formatting the hard drive do choose NTFS as it offers more data security than Fat32.

As mentioned earlier backup all your important files , pictures, browser favorites etc basically take a bit of time and copy all your important files to CD, as once you delete partitions you wont get them back.
