Deliberately cause a bluescreen?

Hi ... I'm trying to test a tool that is supposed to analyze why your system throws a BSOD ... but I am having more trouble than I thought I would trying to force it to BSOD! lol

The system is a Dell Latitude 100L with an Intel 915 Graphics chipset running XP Pro SP2.

I've tried to install drivers from another Latitude ... the bloody thing has been smart enough to realize that I have the wrong driver.

I've tried installing an nVidia video driver ... it installed ... but had no effect!

I tried installing Sonic Record now AND Roxio.

I'm running out of options.

I mean ... I know that I can BREAK it break it by deleting stuff in the registry ... but IDEALLY, I'd like to break it enough to BSOD in the full OS, but still allow me recovery options in Safe Mode.

I found a trick to throwing a bluescreen ... but it isn't a REAL bsod, so it wouldn't show up on the analysis tool.

Any ideas? I know it is borderline ... if you would prefer to not post it here, & want to create a "paper trail" (to provide the proof that I used it for what I want the information for), you can email me ... I'll post my email address here if asked.

THANKS!

Don't know if this will work:

"Hey guys, I'm new here and after reading some of the posts, I remembered an old trick that would cause an instant BSOD on Windows 95, 98, and ME but not on NT, 2000 or XP.

The trick involved creating an html document with a line like this:

Not sure if the syntax is correct but its something similar to that if what I wrote is incorrect."

This may work also:
here is a registry entry that you can use to force a blue stop screen on Windows 2000. First, backup your registry, then make the following change:

Hive: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Key: System\CurrentControlSet\Services\i8042prt\Paramet

ers
Name: CrashOnCtrlScroll
Data Type: REG_DWORD
Value: 1 (0 or nothing will disable the feature)

After a restart, holding down the right-side CTRL key and pressing the Scroll lock key twice will generate the Blue Screen of Death.

I'll try that second option ( I think that was the trick that could force the BSOD that I used to have ... but I'm not sure if it will pick it up in the tool ...)

... the "aux\aux" & "con\con" tricks did nothing unfortunately ... but then, the previous "trick" that I found for that was slightly different. I'll let you know how they work!

THANKS.

Yeah, the first on was not going to work on anything after win me....but thought it might get you thinking, or jog a memory.

Tell us if the second works.

Naturally ... this portable doesn't HAVE a right side Ctrl key.

*sigh*

lol

I've tried DL IE 7 & some Google suite, as well as some screen saver page, weather bug, some memory speed program & hitting a bunch of lyrics pages ...

I have done techsupport ... if end users can break a system, why can't I?!?!

ARRRGH!!

It would be funny if I didn't really need to try to get a bluescreen, ideally due to either file corruption or a driver conflict ...

*sigh*

Plug in an external keyboard.;) Much better (usually) than using the laptop keyboard (if you have space available for a second keyboard). Bazza
