    Hi everyone,

It's been a long while since I asked you a question and it's a dumb one! My cognitive and memory abilities have declined severely in the past few years!!

Quite a while back, I selected Microsoft Pro. Currently I have Version 1903.

    Question:

There are sliders showing in % so one can choose the speed of upload and download in Windows Update in Delivery Optimization.

I would very much like to have the fastest download and upload for Windows updates in % (percentages) in each upload AND download. So what percentage for each one should I choose? I believe it goes from 5-100%.

    Thank you in advance!!

Your internet connection determines how fast you are going to update on your computer. That and how well the MS servers are performing at any given time. Windows Update Delivery Optimization is a sharing service, kind of like torrenting, forced on us by default. Many people chose to disable it since it is intrusive.

The Windows Update Delivery Optimization feature is essentially designed to make sure that users all over the world get updates as quickly and efficiently as possible. It’s also enabled as default in Windows 10 Home and Pro which will immediately irk a lot of people. Think about it along the same line as how a torrent works. Your computer is unwittingly used as part of a peer-to-peer network to distribute files, which basically means its using your upload bandwidth to deliver updates to other computers. Thankfully, users are able to “opt out” of such an experience, but really, Microsoft shouldn’t have turned this on by default, and even more shouldn’t have hidden the menu away so deep inside Settings.

Why do you want Microsoft allocating your bandwidth? Your ISP is already doing that.

I have ran Windows updates with and without Delivery Optimization. There was no difference.

If you are administrating a network then I can see how Delivery Optimization may be helpful. For a home user I feel that MS is using a lot of weasel words to trick you into allocating your bandwidth to other computers and maybe even their own servers.

I did put this setting showing in this pic a bit after I got Win 10, even prior to fiddling with the settings shown in the first post above after that. Guess, it must have been working fine as intended all along? upload_2020-4-15_17-31-18.png
