Can anybody help me get my PC back? I made the mistake of switching off my Dell 2400 Dimension PC before it had completed configuring an update and now when I switch on I can only load as far as the Screen which says 'Configuring updates - Stage 3 of 3 0% complete'. The screen then goes blank and the m/c returns to the beginning of the load.

I have tried forcing the m/c to reload off the installation disc but it won't do it. It will load off a floppy boot disc but won't go beyond the A: screen. It won't switch to the C drive.

I have taken the battery out but no luck.

I have tried F2 and then 'Scroll lock', 'Cap locks', 'Num lock' followed by 'alt + E' 'alt + F' and finally 'alt + B' but after all that it does a system check but always goes back the the basic start screen.

The disc I have been using is the Dell Installation disc.

I have pressed F8 before Windows started to load to get a screen with several options including Safe Mode and Last known good configuration. I have tried all but none work. I have also tried f2, f5, f11 and f12 but cannot get anywhere that I can reload the system.

    Any ideas?
