Hi first time user so forgive me for mistakes.....

we have a dell Inspiron 2650 that has a problem with keeping power on. We believe it is where the socket for the power cord is attached to the computer bad solder joints or design......wondering if anyone has advice on repair; perhaps even running a cord from the board to an outside connector to be "strapped" like a holster to the outside of the comptr any suggestions?

oh I tried to search but didn't find anything maybe I didn't search the right way

Generally all power cables from house power socket to PC are the same, so in borrow one off friend to test the actual cable.

alternatively you would have to swap the Power Supply Unit on your PC with another to test the fully the power flow.

thanks perhaps i wasn't clear. it appears that here is a broken joint caused by a factory design defect.
The socket on the rear of computer moves back and forth from being used on external power while on someone's lap! (imagine that some one would used it on a lap!)
Pressure on the external cord (form resting against someone's leg for instance) moves the socket and breaks the solder joint against the board. Thus with out constant power the battery cannot be charged, and the whole thing is useless.

My inquiry is to determine if someone has had a home remedy for this as a permanent fix . possibly moving the connection to another location.

    Thanks for the concern, John

I see what you mean, the only way around it would be to open the laptop and resolder the joints if the plastic housing for the socket is loose inside your laptop a hotgluegun will do a good enough job, failing you have one you may get away with some pvc cement but will prob soon crack again, also some epoxy would do a good job its just very tricky to work with and you may end up with it all over your laptop
