Dell 4600 + Motorola Surfboard problem.

Not sure if this is software or hardware really. I'm posting for a friend, who's just got an off the shelf Dell 4600 3GHz and a Motorola Surfboard 4200. The problem is that every time he double-clicks on the IE icon, he gets a BSOD.

Software is bundled XP (not sure if it's home or Pro - I'll find out). All patches and updates have been loaded via a dial-up modem. He's had a new hard drive, then a new tower from Dell. The software has been re-installed from the recovery CD and XP recognises the modem, but still no joy.

My first thought is to make sure the drivers are up to date from here - http://broadband.motorola.com/downloads/sb4200.exe - any other suggestions?

 

hi lesrae any info on the exact error msg on that BSOD might help to get to the bottom of this

 

Apparently the error message refers to "BAD POOL CALLER", but I haven't been able to look at it myself to get the exact details.

Any help appreciated.

 

ive come across this before where the modem is plugged in through a hub rather than directly into the usb port on the rear of tower just wondering if its the same in this case
anyway let me know, ive got some spare time later ill have a look around see what else i can come up with
