dell 8100 IDE HDD issues

Hello all,
I have a Dell Dimension 8100 that is not recognizing the HD in the bios or on start up. It is the stock WD 80g Hd that came with the computer i tried moving jumpers on the HDD from CS to Master w/o slave and remove the jumper all together with no luck. I removed the MB batt and reset the clock and it still does not recognize it.

The computer was running perfectly fine prior to this happening. I replaced the case fan and when doing that I unplugged all the IDE's and power cables from the backs of the drives. I have tried using different (known working) IDEs again to no avail.

I did try udating the bios to A09 but it is having issues booting from the floppy to run the bios setup.

I am at a loss here if there is any help out there it would be greatly apprciated. thanks in advance..

Double check that the IDE cable from the HD is connected to the proper connector on the MB. There should be small writing on the MB such as "HD" or "Drive 0".

 

ok So I disconnected all the drives except my floppy and my HDD.It boots up no problem. I have two optic drives a zip drive and a HDD. the 2 optic drives are sharing the same IDE and the HDD and the Zip are sharing the same IDE. There are only 2 IDE ports IDE1 and IDE2. I have the HDD in IDE1.


On a side note I flashed the Bios to A09 from XPS2 which did nothing to help the problem.

 

problem solved. Faulty Zip drive on HDD IDE cable or one of the sockets on the IDE. don't know how or why it affected it or why it did it on the other IDE but what ever my comp works again.

 

So with the HD and Zip drive on the only IDE cable it sees the HD and boots to the OS?
