DELL Compatibility?

I have a modest pc

2 x HDD, 1 master 10gb with windows xp pro as o/s, 1 Slave 30gb for stuff
Pentium 3 processor
Sound card - unknown
and an S3 trio 3d / 2x graphics card

I wanted to upgrade my graphics card so bought one from e-bay it was a
DELL PCI-X NVIDIA FX5200 128MB GRAPHICS CARD

But when i came to install it it won't fit into any PCI slot or the AGP slot, the holes are all wrong...

Does anyone know if DELL components only work on DELL pc's?
Can i get an adaptor for it?
If not then i got one going cheap...!

 

You purchased the PCI-X which is PXI-express interface. It's not DELL, it's a new interface entirely an d is quickly becomming commonplace. Return it and make sure you get a card that reads AGP or PCI not PCI-X or PCIexpress.

In no way am I knocking MG, for overall info this place is tops

But, when it comes to Dells, the above link is where the Dell user forum pays off. All I had was parts, no case, I posted a parts list and in under 12 hours I was supplied with the model # and links to documents, try them, you wont be disappointed

Is it a PCI Express video card?
If it is you'll need a PCI-E slot on
your motherboard.

 

Thanx Kodo that seems to make sense now, When i was looking around i noticed two different types, AGP and PCI, I thought all PCI slots were the same, Lesson learned...
