Has anyone come across a fix for the infamous Dell laptop hardware problem of lighting for 3 to 5 seconds and shutting off. (650mhz,850mhz,1gig) This is a common problem to CPx and CPi systems. Usually all 3 lights turn on power up but when this problem happens only the 2nd and 3rd light come on. The common thinking is that it's a motherboard problem and all tests seem to indicate this is the case. The question is then what, on the motherboard would cause this and, is there a fix other than replacing the motherboard. I have seen this problem on numerous CPx Model PPX laptops (650mhz 128mb 12gigHD)

Has anyone actually found and fixed the problem area on these motherboards?

    Welcome to Major Geeks.
Did you try googling for a solution?
There must be info there, if it is a common problem. Bazza

it would be most helpful if u don't respond UNLESS u've experienced this problem. If not then hold very still until the need to respond subsides.

Looks like no-one else has your problem.
You may wait a long time for an answer, or assistance, with an attitude like yours.

    Hi

First off replies like the below get you nowhere and make you come off as arrogant pompous ass, so if you have thoughts like that again to post similar then "hold very still until the need to respond subsides"

However a couple of suggestions......... and no I have not experienced this issue,

Have you pulled the battery out and tried to run the laptop with just mains, if so does it experience the same problem?

Have you checked the contacts from the CMOS/Bios battery to the motherboard as I have heard that they have a tendancy to corrode, and also possibly changed the CMOS/Bios battery in case of a dead or flat battery?

Just because a post is made doesn't MEAN it requires a response. While i realize that my post is a little more specific than most on here i am content to wait. But,for the record, i find that when i don't know the answer i just move on. unlike some guys who feel the need to offer "negative" help. We all know the dangers of a "little knowledge" thats why i'm happy to wait till i find another technically orientated guy who has this problem and might be willing to share what he's found.

as for the rest. lets just say that unlike most i have attempted all the layman's cures and wouldn't have placed my post if i had wanted those who like to sit back and wax philosophical about technical issues and offer advice because of their need to help. kinda reminds me of the guys who give directions even though they don't know them just so they won't look stupid.

Reel in your egos and just move on to the next post. If someone understands this problem they will come forward. If not no big deal.
