DELL Desktop - No Sound

Please help. I have a couple of month old DELL Dimension 2400. It has 640 mg of memory and 40G hard drive. It had a motherboard problem and a new one was installed. Ever sine then the sound does not work. I've tried the troubleshooting tips on the Dell supprot site, but nothing. It's not the sound muted, turned down too low, etc.

Any advice?

 

Are there any signs of sound device problems in Device Manager-- yellow !'s? If not, have you checked the BIOS? Since the MB was replaced, I can imagine no other hardware changes took place that would affect sound. On boot-up press F2 to Enter Setup, and, under Integrated Peripherals (or something like that), check to see if Sound is Enabled.

 

Tried both. Sound is on/enabled. Checked connection. Updated driver. Still no sound!

 

Check your speaker's and speaker wires.

 

Speakers had to be unplugged to replace mobo. Did they get plugged back into the green jack?

 

I had a problem like this, Went 2 Dell site and in tech area listed the service tag #, on side or back of machine. This will give u a list of available drivers for software loaded on your machine. Try downloading the origional drivers for your sound, then restart.

make sure that the drivers in the system are working and are the correct drivers for the sound card.
you can also try plugging in a set of headphones or speakers into something else to see if they work and then into the computer.
