Dell Dimension 3000 with HL-DT-ST CDRW/DVD GCC4482

I hope this is appropriate here for Hardware Help & Support.

I just picked up a Dell Dimension 3000 computer and I'm in the process of searching out its innards.

That includes the CDRW/DVD, listed in Device Manager as: HL-DT-ST CDRW/DVD GCC4482. Internet search was confounding, but finally narrowed it down to either being a Hitachi or L/G drive. Turns out it's both, being an LG optical drive with Hitachi design software etc.

Problem is that on their site LG will not own up to this drive as theirs, which it is. A DEEP search of their website says no such animal. They do reluctantly list the GCC-4481B after about 25 pages of flying loops. But even if you know that model number they still say that one doesn't and never did exist either, after they tell you it did exist! Zero for info, specs, manual or any info of any kind. Wrote them a cheery little email about that.

Further searching and Dell came through! I found a Dell Manual for the product, GCC-4482, which is a GCC4481B, which is a GCC4481, except that it doesn't exist: ask LG! Dell thinks it does.

While searching for info on my own drive I came across well over a dozen posts by other people who had tried desperately to find out something, anything about this drive. All answers pretty much ended up dead ends. So once I found the info I thought it best to share it!
