    Hello all.
Lost power and my pc was on and connected to a surge protector. I didn't disconnect the pc in the mean time as I wasn't home. When I came home the power light was amber. After repeated attempts to start up, same amber light. So I plugged it directly into the wall socket and it worked(booted up perfectly). As soon as I got to my desktop, I shut it down. I assumed I needed a new surge protector.
So I purchased a new one and I've got the same amber light. I then tried direct to wall outlet. But it wouldn't work this time. So I opened the pc and reconnected the modem, and other items including memory and gave it a good cleaning. (after reading other posts regarding power problems). And I've still got an amber light. I didn't touch the area where the power comes in as I didn't want to mess with something I have no idea about. Any suggestions as to what you think is the problem?
    Thanks

    Thanks Goldenskull,
So I found just one connector. It is the one that comes from the power supply area. When disconnected it has what looks like a bunch of square looking connectors. But no luck.
    Cheers anyway.

So now I've disconnected and reconnected every connection I could find. Still no luck. Any ideas what my next step should be?
    Thanks

Needed a new power supply unit. All's well now. :)

Thanks for letting us know. DELLs with blinking amber lights usually mean power supply but because yours wasn't blinking I wasn't sure enough to comment.

    Glad you got it working!

Did you by chance open the old one up? Some have a 10 cent fuse that pops to protect them!

No I didn't, but I'll remember that if it happens again.
    Thanks.
