    Hi,

A friend of mine was having problems with his 5150 as it had been loaded with viruses. I formatted it with xp sp3, which I later found was a mistake. I realized I simply could have restored the dell to its factory settings AFTER the fact. Now, freshly formatted, I'm having driver installation issues. The following drivers won't install as they are "not compatible" with the system:

Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus
    Ethernet Controller
    Video Controller
    Video Controller (VGA Compatible)

Everything else is working perfectly, although these won't install. I'm thinking it has something to do with the fact that SP3 is installed. Nonetheless, I need help!

    Hi

Where are you finding the drivers from that wont install?

I would go Everest to find this info, at times a summary log of your PC can help, to do this"]HERE[/URL] and these are the XP drivers for that model DELL, then install them in this order,

Chipset, download > Install this from HERE and then reboot (must reboot) then install the Audio from HERE

Then install the LAN from HERE

But for the Video you will have to tell us what model graphics card is being used in this PC, there are a few different types that did come with this model, do the below and follow the guide as written and attach the log, steps to do all of this are below.

SP3 shouldnt cause issues with drivers, but as this is likely a new re-install, could you not now just do the System Factory Restore.

Thanks Halo, all is well now. I wasn't paying much attention to the drivers on this page: http://support.dell.com/support/dow...=en&SystemID=Dimension 5150/E510&catid=&impid, only downloading the urgent and some of the recommended... I was using the wrong drivers on the wrong system. The ones that you pointed out all worked properly. I had the chipset installed, it was just the LAN and Audio I didn't have properly downloaded. The video card turned out to be a x300, which was an easy install.

    Thanks for the help.
