No Dell customer support can be reached for help with this problem.

The text that appears everywhere is so small I can barely read it. Dell on-line offers a solution that must have been composed by a two-year-old -- and a monkey at that.

Dell's magnified is another joke they play on the customer.

Are you able to offer suggestions on how to correct the problem?

    Thanks.

    Hi

What model is the display and is it CRT or LCD or on a laptop, if a laptop whats the model version of laptop?

What Windows version and Service Pack?

Is the text small in every single application or just some and if just some can you name a few?

If you boot into Safe Mode (F8 at boot) is the text any different?

Possabilities are wrong font being used to an adjustement in the font size or screen resolution, the higher the smaller the text goes, but as we dont know your windows version it is hard to advise as to settings to cover all the windows versions.

    Define: everywhere.

It reads like you don't like your new monitor at it's native resolution - tough, learn how to set your programs to suit you - or revert to a blurred 800x600. It's nothing to do with Dell, it's industry wide.

While you're in a web browser, try using Ctr+/- to increase/decrease the page size.

Okay, that worked. But it doesn't do much to change to task bar at the top of the page. Might now be a Point 6.

But it isn't a new monitor. It's the one I've used for years.

    Sorry for forgetting details.

Desktop Inspirion 531. It's Vista, and I just installed MS Office Home and Student 2010. The only site where I've been able to change the font size permanently is gmail.

Ok, sounds like it's an older CRT monitor, change the Desktop resolution to 800x600 or 1024x768.

EDIT: do you have the Dell service tag for the 531? It should be on a sticker on the machine somewhere.

Brilliant! It worked! The 800 was a bit too big so I went with the slightly smaller one.

    Thank you!
