Dell Insp. 1100 paperweight

I am working on a dell insp. 1100 every thing was fine untill i attempted to upgrade the ram from the 2 156 it had to a pny 512. i changed out the ram and attempted to turn it on. the (what i guess are to be) scroll lock and number lock lights flashed and nothing. i moved the new ram all around to every slot in every configuration with no luck. now the thing wont even pretend to turn on.

ive tried diffrent power supplies, with and without the battery and every thing now is as i found it and still nothing. im not new to working on computers but i am out of ideas. any would be welcome. thank you.

 

The new ram you bought could be defective, or your not plugging it in right, or chances are your motherboard doesnt support it, i would recommend sticking ur old sticks back in and returning the RAM your purchaesed. I dont know if this would have an effect but maybe the mobo doesnt supopst that much ram (i doubt it though) Anyone else have some ideas for him. In my opinion its probably dead RAM either get a refund, or return it for a replacement and try the replacement RAM. (I assume the ram you purchased is the same speed as your older ram so you know for sure ur motherboard supports it. By the way could you tell us the exact number of the ram, like it will say DDR333 or PC333/266/133 etc something along those lines.

 

a lot of older dells only supported 2x256. have you tried the old ram again?

 

the ram may have caused it but the old stuff in its orignal postiosion isnt doing jack. its just as dead as before. also the mo-board can hold up to a gig (512 in each slot) i checked 'er. ive actualy got an idea that the power port where the plug goes is bad on it and isnt charging the batt the ram is a fluke. any feed back would make me happy. thank you
