tunered that's not even the right link for inspiron 1100 at dell
I'm having the same problem as st4r10n ...
I went to the dell support site and put in the service tag...
downloaded the 2 available downloads for Network, as well as the other important ones ie video, audio etc, and burned them to disk
ran the utilities on my laptop and got squat.
broadcom network adapter is now showing installed, which wasn't in the ! list in device manager anyway...
and yet the Network Controller marked ! in device manager is still showing no driver and I have no network so I'm dead in the water trying to do this format/ reinstall and get the rest of the updates/ drivers I need. Plus the usb drives are dead and there is no USB drivers listed on dell's site when I put in the service tag number.
    any help appreciated...thx
P.S. It'd be real nice if someone who owns a dell inspiron 1100, and still has the drivers disk, would make a torrent and post it up for us. I would worship the ground you walk on!

    Hi

Moved post to its own thread as that one was 2006.

What Windows version are you using and Service Pack?

Dell Inspiron drivers or current listed ones at Dell are HERE, you will need to install the Chipset drivers first then reboot and then install any others you are missing.

Chipset drivers are often missed out, but they are crucial to allowing the operating system to correctly ID the other hardware items like Network, Audio and USB.

    Thx for response.
Windows XP home without any service packs. Had to get a special copy of windows off a buddy that he had from an original Dell laptop install in order to use the key off the back of my laptop.
So far I have been working around the problem and I think I have it fixed. Part of the problem was the version of windows that worked with the key provided with the laptop which was the very first version and not alot of built in support like drivers so it seems.
I was able to get the right version of the driver for my wireless LAN card and at least I finally got the laptop on my network, even though I went through half a dozen cd-r's getting and testing the right drivers since the USB hub was inop and this version of windows didn't like the most current drivers.
I actually found a couple torrents for the driver utility disk that say they cover the Inspiron 1100 but the image files are all to big for CD, have to burn them to DVD, and this old laptop only has a CD rom.
I couldn't get the Dell System Support driver to install, the one the other guy said do first, it would error out saying "this operating system is not intended for this device" or something along those lines which was weird. The BIOS update wouldn't go either and I noticed it was a different maker so I didn't force it, Dell only has the one BIOS flash available on their website so if I want to flash it I'll have to do the research and find the file probably on the manufacturer's site.
The broadcom driver for the modem wouldn't take either, all these I am refering to are the drivers from Dell's support site for my specific service tag nubmer.
The good news is at this point I am almost all up to date with windows xp home, up to Service Pack 3, and I re-enabled the modem and usb hubs and let them search automatic for the drivers and they found what they were looking for because I finally have no Red or Yellow '!' left in my Device Manager.
The bad news is my onboard NIC is still inop even though nothing showing up bad in Device Manager. tried uninstalling it and then rebooting and it just reinstalls the same driver and it will still say the cord is unplugged even though it is not. I am on Local Area Connection 4 now because of all the attempts. I also got a third one showing up in Network Connections now just saying Internet Connection which is showing connected but it wasn't there until I tried to manual add the LAN and now can't get rid of it, nor reset the Local Area Conn to 1 or no number.
So if anyone has any suggestions to fix the onboard NIC or how to wipe the Network connections list clean and get a fresh start it would be greatly appreciated. Even though this laptop will mostly be used wirelessly it would be nice to not have anything on it inop before I hand it down to my niece to use.
    thx Again:wave
