just today my dell inspiron n5110 has suddenly not able to recognize the ac adapter had it for year n a half but the only thing im not proud of the laptop is the graphics card and cpu. Anyways i dont understand how it just has stopped recognizing it. i have gone into BIOS and it says none on the AC type.
    heres the specs incase:
    inspiron n5110 win7 64 bit home prem.
    intel i3 2.2ghz
    6gb ram
    intel hd 3000 64MB

    EDIT:

A new cord and transformer is around $14 on Amazon.com. Another issue could be the battery. Call Dell, and they will tell you how to get it back to them to find out what is going on, or find a mom & pop computer shop to look at it.

Do not even think about taking it to Worst Buy, because you might as well just take a running jump against the building, due to that is what it will feel like after they are done with you.

Brownz what the hell are you talking about its just the plug that goes into the back of the laptop. I don't know where you got transformers and whatnot I just need to replace the adapter and also it requires a 65watt adapter. Its not the battery or laptop or transformer. Also I don't know what stores you go to

What do you want, a miracle. If it is the female adapter on the motherboard, again, you will have to contact Dell, or take it to a mom & pop shop to see if they are able to fix it.

But guessing from your remark at the beginning, appears that all you wanted to do was rant anyways, so have at it, if you do not want suggestions on how to diagnose the problem and fix it.

Unless you have physically tested other power adapters to figure out that it is the onboard adapter that is the problem, which HP/Compaq had that issue in machines manufactured in the mid 2000's, due to cold solder joints on the mother boards, and all you could do was send the unit off to HP/Compaq to have the unit fixed.

Dell has had their issues also with fans and also cold solder joints on the motherboards, so again, if you do not want help or suggestions on this, find somewhere else to go on about why it is not working.

You know that big fat box connected to the power adapter?

It is a transformer, that converts A/C to D/C. The adapter is nothing more than a big transformer.

Go back and read what it states on the label on that fat box, connected between the two cords that are in between it.

Yes, used to be that it was inside the units, which made them heavier, and hotter, but now any electronic device, uses an external transformer module between the LV cord & high volt cord to the outlet.

Look up the Computer History museum and search for the old Kaypro portable or Commodore portable computers. Even better, the old real old school laptops, or as those of us in our forties & fifties called them back in the day, "lap warmers", if you want to see why now we have the power module device external of the electronic device.

Even some Blu-Ray players that are small form factor are going with the external power module, so that they can downsize the footprint of the actual unit.
