Have a Dell Inspiron DUO that while on battery, when you lift it, something causes it to lose all power. The error log shows the failure, it’s been sent in, but Dell cannot seem to find the problem.
I believe it has an issue with the motherboard or a connection to the battery. But apparently, Dell doesn’t believe my suggestion, but that it is a "software" problem (they re-imaged the hard drive), and can't seem to locate it. Dell Tech support is not being too supportive in this matter.
This is what I put on the paperwork when sent in: while on battery power, when attempting to move the computer by lifting it from the right side, the computer lost power, not a shut-down.
A tablet PC that constantly must be on a power cord is not worth being called “portable”. Any suggestions that I might be able to push back with them on this issue?

Dell tech support reads from a script... Like most companies. They were stupid to realize that you move the laptop and the problem is caused as that seems to me that it is a hardware issue that you can not fix. You could remove the battery and clean the connections off with an eraser to be sure they are clean and contacting well and or blow some air in there to get any particles out. Should take you 2 minutes to test.

If this continues and you can duplicate the problem while picking it up on battery ONLY tell Dell the Majorgeeks said to bump you to their Advanced Level tech support.

It's formatted, software has been eliminated.

Short background: I have an Electronics Technician certificate, been a Sr. Tech Support Engineer for a telecom manufacturer, and have been explicitly told to not open this under-warranty-company-PC to fix it, but go through Dell tech support.
The phone-flunkie, agreed that it sounds like a bad solder joint or a loose connection. Apparently it's the "techs" at the repair facility that could not read the notes to decipher that by 'lifting while on battery' is where the problem arises...
This is one of those netbook-type things: two USB ports, a headset jack, and a power cord port. Nothing is removable, there is no CD/DVD-drive, internal battery, etc...
I'll give Dell another call and drop the "MajorGeeks" name...
    Thanks.

Just got off the phone with Dell tech support. They had me run diagnostics before boot. While running diags, he had me handle the computer without it plugged-in. It passed the initial memory tests (did not run the 30-min test). Failed when it went to do the HD test, came back with "Missing Operating System".
They said that it appears the HD is not always making connections and I am to send it back in. Hopefully it will be fixed this time. rolleyes
