i'm working on a Dell Inspiron M5030 that has a system password.

    SERVICE TAG: 4MDK9N1
    EXPRESS SERVICE CODE: 10060165837

symptoms: press power button, you see the Dell logo, i press F2 or F12 but within two seconds there is a prompt to put in system password.

i have done the following without success:
    - does not recognize liveCDs like hiren bootcd and other programs to clear BIOS
    - took out the CMOS battery – did not work
    -tried the F10, alt +F10, alt + F11, F11
    - unplugging power, battery for 10 seconds to clear cmos with no success.
-Dell “backdoor passwords” didn’t work either

If someone can please help me. I don’t know what the password is. I read you can jump the Bios Chip but where is it on the motherboard for this M5030?

    Thanks for your time.

BIOS passwords are designed to be practically impossible to crack.

Take a look at this page.

If you try to enter a "bad" password three times or so does the Dell give you a hash tag in the format: 1234567-595B if so what does it give?

Call Dell's Consumer Tech Support @ 1800 624 9896 and give the service tag along with the four other digits at the end of the service tag when you try and enter the bios. You will also need to verify the name the the system is under, machine type and they should be able to supply you with the default bios password for the system.;);)

    - Dell support wants to charge a lot of money since it's out of warranty

I'm just curious if you tried these three passwords from that site?

On the location of the chip, I haven't found any motherboard schematics. The Winbond would be a likely one. I'm coming up with chips shaped like this and this. Do you have multiple chips of that basic design?

thanks for your feedback. others have mentioned that the winbound would be it. forgot the system bios password and there was a way to jump the bios chip to clear the password. i see that i could buy a bios chip from ebay or need to buy a motherboard all together. i'll post a status on the passwords you provided.
