Hello, does anyone think I will have any issues putting in a E5400 with my Inspiron 530D and reusing the JY167 heatsink with this paste?

What temps should I look for normally, and to be afraid of?

Do I really need to 'tint' the heatsink before applying the horizontal line across the CPU ?

I don't think you will have issues if you use the same cpu cooler that came with the pc just watch the temps.

Clean off the old paste form the CPU and the bottom of the heat sink with Alcohol. I prefer 99% over the 70% since it's almost pure. I use paper towels to clean it off but it's better to do with a coffee filter if you have them.

How I do is just put a small dab in the center of the cpu about a small grain on rice and then put the heat sink on and let it spread by the force of the heat sink. I"m not a fan of spreading it out as you can mess up and get it on your motherboard or cpu socket and shot it up if it's a electric conductive paste. With thermal paste less is more.

At what temps do I want to be worried about? I am thinking about this paste too since it's not silver. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835100014 is it conductive ?

I used Prime85 for about 6 mins on my current system.

The speeds of the fan went up to 3154 RPMs and I could start to hear them for the first time ever besides boot up. Then the cores went up to 46C each. Soon as I stopped the test it dropped down to 33 C almost instantly and the speeds went back around the same speeds I've seen for the 2+ years. Which is in the range of 1730 RPMs.

What temps should I be looking at for the E5400 or a E6600 Pentium Dual Core if I decide to pay a little more for the E6600 ?
