    Hi

My Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop battery doesn't appear in the power meter although it works whenever i unplug the cord. As far as the laptop software is concerned there is no battery available and the "battery low" light will appear even though it will switch to battery once unplugged from a power outlet. Granted the battery is somewhat old (almost 1 yr) and holds a charge that will last 20 min or less.

I tried removing the battery and reinserting it but the power meter still shows that there is no battey present

    Advice/Suggestions?

Try removing the Microsoft APCI-Compliant Control Method Battery driver from device manager.
You can go there by right-clicking the MY computer icon ,choose properties ,in the new window choose device manager on the left pane.
When device manager opens click on the Batteries section to expand it and uninstall the Microsoft APCI-Compliant Control Method Battery driver ,reboot and windows will reinstall the driver.
