I have a Dell Precision M60 laptop. It had 1GB of RAM (2 512MB chips) and I decided to change that for 2 1GB chips.

First time I powered it up, it got to the login screen and then froze for a couple of minutes so I powered it off (with the main power switch) and now when I try to turn it on, the 3 lock lights come on (caps, num and scroll) briefly then they go off and the caps lock one starts flashing for about 3 seconds. Then the whole thing turns itself off again. The harddrive doesn't sound like it's running at all.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

And did you put the old ram back in? Does it boot then?

If so ...then go here and co the scan:

it appears that your RAM is not compatible with your motherboard. what type of RAM were you installing?

Hey thanks for the help. Unfortunately I found the actual reason is because something on the motherboard got damaged... So the laptop has been sent away. Thanks anyway.
