I have a Dell dv6-2155dx laptop. When the power button is pushed, it flashes the power light and a few other lights on the laptop, and then pauses and flashes once again, and pauses, etc. Only a single flash.
I removed the battery and power cord, held power button for a minute, plugged back in with AC power, but it did not help.
I cannot hear the fan. I don't think it is turning.
No dust is apparent in any of the vents.
I removed the memory sticks, and tried them one at a time in each slot. It did not work.
I removed the HDD and reset it, but still did not work.
I just can't get the machine to go into POST.
I am thinking it has power, but I cannot open the disc drive and, as noted, fan is not working. Disc drive light is one of them that is flashing.
Not sure where to go from here.

Are you sure this is a Dell and not an HP? I can't find that model of Dell laptop anywhere at the Dell site. HP's with that model number are all over Google.

Is this an Alienware, Latitude, Vostro, XPS, Inspiron?

Darn. Yes, it is an HP. Was working on a Dell all day and just mistyped. Thanks.

There were some issues with this model as well as some dv6000 and dv9000 tx series,

What I read at one of the HP Support Forums was to press the Power and Escape buttons at the same time and see if you can get to a recovery screen. Then choose repair.

    If that doesn't work,

Thanks for that information. Both of the links you provided no longer work, so I am afraid HP won't fix it any more, but I have sent them a support request. I'll see what they say.
Assuming they won't repair it, do you have any idea what was causing the problem? Is it something that can be repaired? Or do I just remove the hard drive to recover the data and brick the machine?

In your original post, you said you can't get the computer to go into POST. That sounds like a BIOS issue. Did you try replacing the CMOS battery?

You did everything else HP says to do and being you're getting LED flashes, power is being supplied to the computer.

If replacing the CMOS battery doesn't help you may need to remove the hard drive and brick the machine. You said the fan isn't running so, excessive heat may have caused the current condition of the computer.
