I just aquired a D820 with 2gb ram Windows7, when I got it, I was told the panel (LCD) would not come on, well I removed the ram and restarted and it came up fine. I installed a fresh copy of Win7 and it was fine, well today when I turned it on. The LCD flickered so I shut it down and tried again still flickering. I decided to remove the keyboard and reseat the ram under it, and didn't put it all back together and noticed the fan wasn't running. I'm curious shouldn't the fan run all the time? I know some computers the fan will shutdown when it is cool enough. I hope someone out there can help me with this.

    Thanks

The fan should run most (if not all) of the time.

What's likely happening is - due to the fan not spinning - the on-board video card is overheating to the point of failure.

Stop using the PC until you replace the fan. The more times the on-board video and entire motherboard overheat, the more likely it will eventually cook the motherboard to the point of no repair.

You should be able to find replacement fans on eBay.

    Hope this helps. :)
