install the sound driver, thats what i did, if u got a cd for it use that, otherwise d/l it from the manufactuars website, do u have a seperate sound card or do u have onboard sound? if its onboard find out who makes your motherboard and go to their site

Ok, During the restore windows said it could not install certain files. So I skipped them. They must be the audio controller files. I dont know why it couldn't install all of the files. This machine had a very bad virus, that is why i did a re-install. Do you think the bios could be corrupted.

There is on-board audio, but i am trying to install a pci audio card (c-media) and i have the installation cd

hhmm, which OS is it? XP?

if you havn't put anything back on the computer you could reformat the drive a few times, sometimes formatting doesn't seem to always get rid of everything, so if you can reformat 2 or 3 times, dont do quick format do full format, then install the OS again, ive seen that error before and that all i did and the files installed just fine

im not sure, but u thought the bios could be corrupt, u could reset the bios, do u know how to do that? you could do that then reformat and reinstall XP and try that, im really not too sure what it could be, but if u do it right it can't hurt

Thanx, yeah I am thinking that the bios has to be corrupt. Other than that , this does not make sense !!! Even after the restore and the formatting, This p4 1.8 ghz machine takes a very long time to boot up. Once it has booted up every thing is fine and runs at the speed it should. But the boot process is very long. So that only leads me to the Bios and or memory.

May be i am wrong, that is why I am on this board, so i can get suggestions !! Thanx for your help !!! :)
