Dell Media Direct won't boot

The mach, Dell Vostro 1500, running Win XP pro sp3.

I pushed the Media Direct button to start the 'program'. It is a separate button that doesn't start the os.

It never made it thru the boot process. It wouldn't shut down either. Had to pluck the battery to kill it. Hope I didn't kill it permanently. The computer that is.

Now when I press the power button to start the os it gets the Dell screen then fades to black and then the media direct boot screen comes up and in about a minute the scrolling bar indicating its booting stops moving, and there it sits.

Any advice in which direction I need to go would be greatly appreciated.
