Im trying to re-install XP with original disk, even with disk and cd rom choosen first or through boot menu, it always says "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
    System32\Drivers\Ntfs.sys

then attempt repair through original CD-ROM press 'r' at first screen

but to no avail it just reboots to that screen after the DELL startup screen

any ideas to get to the disk

This must be a USB CDROM drive (the Mini 9 is a netbook?)? What make/model is it? Does it show in the BIOS? Have you tried setting the BIOS order to USB first?

I did try that... what all should be enabled and disabled in bios, it is an inspirion 910

Sorry for not making myself clear enough; I was assuming it was a netbook and wanted to know what make/model the CD ROM drive was.

Hmm, I'm not sure what might be causing this, I suspect it could be that the USB CD/DVD ROM drive is not being detected or is not allowed to be a boot device by the Dell BIOS.

If you have a spare USB stick and access to another PC for an hour or two, you could try creating a bootable USB stick (thumbdrive/SD card, ... ) and install XP from that or using this software.

Is this the disk that came with your netbook?
Does your mini have an ssd drive? If so, is it 4GB or 8Gb?

its an 8 gig, I finally got it to boot to the disk, now it shows on c:(partition unknown) and has 7393 of 7393 free space and when i try to load the windows to it, it says its unable to and i cannot delete or add another partion

Again, I'll ask "Is this the disk that came with your netbook?".

The disk that came with your netbook probably has all the hardware drivers; a regular XP disk from MS may not.

My netbook came preloaded with linux but I also received all the hardware drivers in case I planned to install XP.

Ok, if Dell's disk will not restore your Dell mini, it is time to contact Dell support and find out if you have a bad disk or a hardware problem.
