Has anyone had any experience buying a refurbished computer from Dell's outlet?

Two of my coworkers have - 1 laptop and 1 desktop- never heard any complaints. You can find some loaded systems there. Someone told me that sometimes those PCs are brand new. Like if someone ordered a PC then cancels the order after production, it cannot be sold as new - so off to the refurb pile it goes. I do search there first when I want something - unless they are running a deal on new systems you can't beat.

I've purchased several for work, as well as my personal laptop. It cost $824, and, as configured, if purchased new that same week, would have cost $1600.

The comments above are correct-- the unit may well have never left the warehouse. But to return its parts to stock are more costly than selling it as a refurb. All the units I have received were indistinguishable from new-- in appearance, functionality and warranty. The only downside is you must accept the configuration of the unit as it was originally ordered-- no upgrading or add-ons. I see they have recently add a parameter whereby you can specify the "degree" of refurbished-ness you find acceptable, whether it be cancelled orders or returned/never booted. Stock changes frequently during weekday business hours, so check every 20 minutes or so for new stock if your initial search doesn't produce anything appealing.
