dell...over clock????can it be done????

ok first of all this would be strickly for fun just to see what i can squieez out of this thing. im not going to just go buy some other computer with better stuff,i just want to see what this thing can realy do. i have before me a dell dimension 4400 pc fully working just fine and fast as hell!(ill tell you why its fast as hell later) n-e way....this is what the system WAS......
CPU......intel pentium 4 1.8Ghz/256(acording to dell you can only put a 2.4Ghz in place as upgrade...ha..ha..ha)
RAM......ddr sdram 2 slots...1gig(max)..only came with 512Mb.....ha ha ha ...
1 AGP slot containing a NVIDIA geforce2mx 64Mb..BUSS SPEED..66mhz 4x/2x modes at 1.5v.
it had a regular cd-rom and a floppy.
HARD DRIVE...western digital 40gig at 5400 rpm....
and windows xp home.
the motherboard is made by intel and my chipset is an intel i845D with ddr memory support. i found this out by this nifty lil program called cpu-z. and thats what it was when i got it.......heres what she is now and what ive done so far.....tell me what u think.....
CPU-now......2.66Ghz/512 intel pentium4.
RAM-now..this is weird....2-1gig sticks.
AGP-now...NVIDIA geforce fx 5600xt/256Mb
dvd-rw dl with lightscribe,and a cdrw ultra speed.
a seagate baracuda 40 gig hd and a seagate 80 gig both 7200rpm
and windows.......VISTA ULTIMATE 32bit

the first thing i did was flash the bios with the update and all of a sudden it increased my mem ammount to 2 gig max....:confused...go figure....
but all i know is its faster than my moms new computer at evry thing! start up,shutdown,and computing.but i wanna game a lil bit with it and see what i can play.....i had the demmo for call of duity 4 moddern war fare and it wouldnt play it it said the card or diver didnt support the glow effect or somthing like that.....and would stop and not go firther.but ne way what can i do to over clock my cpu and my gpu.....what do i need and what. any help would be helpful thanks.

 

Used to have a Dell Dimension 3000 that I tinkered with.It came to me with a P4 2.8GHz (stock)
After playing around with the settings in the BIOS, it got to a very stable 3.35GHz.
Could have taken it slightly higher, but started bucking on me, so backed it down some.
Could possibly see 3.1GHz with what you are starting with.
Just remember to go slowly. Small adjustment in the clock speed then run for a period to ensure stability. Once sure, go another step and run for another period.
When it gets to where it starts to hang or malfunction, back up some to where you know it was stable.
Also, be sure to have a program running that can keep an eye on your CPU temps.(Don't want excessive heat).
Mine was all done adjusting the FSB timings without bothering the voltages, which could have maybe taken me higher, but I was happy where I was.
Be very careful and patient.

 

thank you for the info and i will take your advice and go slow and be pashent.....i cant spell today..lol.......and 1 quick question.. you did all yours threw the bios....i dont know if i can or not. can u give me an idea on what to look for mabie.....ill look and see what i can do..... i just got cpucool to check out.thanks for the help man and have a nice afternoon.:major

 

Been a long time ago, but look for any to do with your processor. Will say Clock Speed, FSB something like that. Probably be in an Advanced Settings.

 

ok well i looked and it cant be done threw the bios,not mine theirs no option what so ever to ajust any thing of that sort exept the video output. and my pll type isnt supporten or cant be ulterd with the cool cpu:major
